Happiness is meeting Sherman Alexie and him saying,” Oh, that’s you? I read your column at McSweeney’s!”
Dendrophilia and Other Social Taboos: True Stories is now available as an eBook. It can be purchased from Amazon right here!
“Dani Burlison is that rare writer who can rip her own heart out, lay it on the page, and still make you laugh with (sometimes jaded) recognition at the hilarity of it all. The way Dani sees the world will remind you why you like to read.”
~ Ariel Gore, author: HipMama Magazine, Bluebird and The End of Eve
“Dani Burlison‘s writing makes me love the freak in me, the I made such a bad decision last night part of me, the sure that sounds like a great idea regretful me. Her writing is full of humor and humility, bravado and vulnerability; she makes me happy to be alive and reminds me that we are not alone.”
~ Tomas Moniz, Rad Dad and Bellies and Buffalos
“Dani will locate and tickle your crazy-sad-funny bone.”
~ MariNaomi, author/artist of Kiss & Tell: A Romantic Resume, Ages 0 to 22
A limited number of pre-release print copies will be available for $12.95 before Christmas. The book will then be available in January! Contact me at email@example.com if you’re interested in ordering a copy.
Here’s a sneak peek of my book (or at least the cover), an essay collection titled after my McSweeney’s Internet Tendency column of the same name. The eBook and print edition will be available this week!
Stay tuned for readings and other book events around the Bay Area this winter and more in the Pacific Northwest during AWP in February and March!
Huge thanks to Sara Griff for reading my story, “A Local’s Guide to Keeping it Cool During Tom Waits Sightings” at Quiet Lightning on Sept. 2. While I was home sick with a fever, she did this:
I’ll be reading at Quiet Lightning’s Labor Day show again this year and I’m stoked. The reading will again take place inside of Golden Gate Park’s Conservatory of Flowers. Sometimes there are large cockroaches wandering around. Sometimes butterflies flutter about. Sometimes there is a nature-y cricket soundtrack playing in the background. There is always Lagunitas beer, a gaggle of fun writers and plenty of fog outside. I hope to see you there.

I just found out that I was accepted to Lit Camp, a brand spanking new writing conference near Calistoga, CA! The juried conference is a partnership between Litquake and the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto. I mention them both in the write-up about the Bay Area literary scene that I did for Ploughshares.
Anyhow, I am thrilled and looking forward to working on my memoir with some of the brainiest writers around.
