We are committed to featuring work by a diverse body of writers and will include a wide array of genres. (For more information or if you are interested in submitting your work for consideration, please contact ebabzfest@gmail.com.)

The pick for March is Dendrophilia and Other Social Taboos: True Stories

Books will be available at Sweet Adeline on March 13 and can also be purchased here.

Or for your Kindle at Amazon

About the book:

Dani Burlison’s collection of essays, named after her McSweeney’s Internet Tendency column of the same name, is an exploration of the wacky, shameful, ridiculous and heartbreaking topics that the rest of us don’t want to talk about. Part anthropological research on new age practices, part memoir with humorous and often brutally honest self-reflection,Dendrophilia covers the most absurd taboos that you never thought you actually really want to talk about.

Portland Book Reading at IPRC March 3

Noted Bay Area writers Tomas Moniz (Rad Dad) and Dani Burlison (McSweeney’s) join with local authors Zach Ellis and Joshua James Amberson for a dynamic night of readings. The tour is in support of Moniz’s new novella, Bellies and Buffalos (Black Hills Press) and Burlison’s new essay collection, Dendrophilia and Other Social Taboos: True Stories.

Tomas Moniz is the founder, editor, and a writer for the award winning zine, book and now magazine: Rad Dad. He also is co-founder and co-host of the successful monthly reading series Lyrics and Dirges as well as the more rambunctious open mic, Saturday Night Special. He’s been making zines since the late nineties, and his most current zines Dirty and The Body is a Wild Wild Thing are available, but you have to write him a postcard: PO Box 3555, Berkeley CA 94703. Tomas teaches at Berkeley City College.

Dani Burlison has been a staff writer for a Bay Area alt-weekly, a columnist for McSweeney’s Internet Tendency and a book reviewer for The Los Angeles Review. She writes a music/lit column at The Rumpus and is a freelancer of epic proportions with other work appearing or forthcoming in places like The Chicago Tribune, Ploughshares, Hip Mama Magazine, Rad Dad, Spirituality & Health Magazine, Shareable and more. She is a Squaw Valley Writers Workshop and Lit Camp alumna and lives in Sonoma County with her two daughters.

Zach Ellis writes creative nonfiction. He lives in Portland, Oregon and works as a bookseller when he isn’t writing. He is the father of a five year old, who gives him plenty of things to write about. He has written for The Gravity of the Thing and has travelled to Glasgow, Scotland to read his poetry at In Our Words: an LGBT literary festival.

Joshua James Amberson is the author of the long-running Basic Paper Airplane zine, as well The Prince Zine. His essays and music journalism have appeared in the Portland Mercury, Performer Magazine, Rascal Magazine, Quickest Flip Magazine, and American Songwriter, among others. He’s currently working on a young adult novel called The Importance of Forgetting.
